September 2017 Visiting Teaching Printable – Of One Heart
“At the heart of the English word atonement is the word one. If all mankind understood this, there would never be anyone with whom we would not be concerned, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, or social or economic standing. We would strive to emulate the Savior and would never be unkind, indifferent, disrespectful, or insensitive to others.” – Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
I decided to do the September 2017 Visiting Teaching printable on Elder M. Russell Ballard’s quote, but I also loved the quote by President Henry B. Eyring.
“Where people have [the] Spirit with them, [they] may expect harmony. … The Spirit of God never generates contention (see 3 Nephi 11:29). … It leads to personal peace and a feeling of union with others.”
It was a wonderful reminder that if we are feeling anger or animosity towards others, it is time to take a step back and reevaluate ourselves. I am so grateful for a gospel that publishes peace in these turbulent times.
It reminded me of one of my favorite scriptures, Isaiah 52:7-9
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.”
I love this scripture because it speaks of the joy and the unity that the gospel brings. And it isn’t something we have to wait for. The Lord is ready to comfort us and bring us together right now. We just have to humble ourselves and turn to Him.
